What is a “Guardian Family”?
If approved for our Guardian Program, you will be given a Labrador Retriever(puppy or adult). You will raise this dog as your own. The dog will belong to Black Gap Labs and will be contracted for a certain number of litters. She will stay with us for the breeding and whelping process but will be with her Guardian Family between litters and at all other times. When retired from whelping litters, we will pay to have her spayed and she will be signed over to the Guardian Family’s ownership.
We believe this program will be a wonderful way to give our dogs “normal”, family lives. They will have a forever family to call their own. Being a guardian family for a Black Gap Lab puppy/dog is a great way to contribute and be a part of breeding the best Labradors without having to do the work of whelping puppies and placing puppies into their forever homes. There are more perks to being a guardian family for Black Gap Labs, other than what’s listed above. We share a small portion of profits from your guardian dogs puppies with you. If you are interested in becoming a guardian family please reach out.
As a guardian home, there are several qualifications a family must meet and agree to before adopting the puppy/dog
- Must live within 30 miles or 1 hour of the breeder (a little flexible on this)
- Provide a safe environment for the puppy, including the protection of a fenced in yard
- Provide an environment that fosters a well socialized, healthy puppy/dog
- Be able to provide routine health maintenance for the dog, including but not limited to, vet exams, routine vaccinations per vet direction, heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Additionally guardian family agrees to provide routine care including grooming and feeding. These expenses are covered exclusively by the guardian family.
- Must remain in close contact with the breeder when needed for breeding related needs
- Any breeding related costs/procedures/ testing are the sole responsibility of Black Gap Labs.
- Must communicate directly with breeder and agree to all aspects of guardian family contract
- Guardian families must feed a dog food approved by me. I am an advocate of health nutrition for dogs, and for feeding foods that will not cause health issues, things like cancers, tumors, allergies, etc. The foods I will ask you to feed are easily found or ordered.
